Chrysler LLC will introduce three concept electric vehicles next year that are designed to be totally electric or supplemented by diesel motors or hydrogen fuel cells, the automaker said Tuesday. The concepts, to be unveiled in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, are an effort to call attention to the company’s research in futuristic power systems. But none will be powered by the advanced systems yet, a company spokesman said.

Hyundai Motor Co.´s Tucson Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) triumphed in this year´s Challenge Bibendum held in Shanghai from November 14 to 17. Competing against teams from Daimler AG, GM, Nissan, Tucson FCEV was the only fuel cell electric vehicle to get a perfect score.

A new battery that can be recharged to 90 percent capacity in under five minutes and lasts 10 years will start shipping in March, Toshiba Corp. announced this week, hailing it as “a new energy solution” for cleaner transportation. Toshiba plans to initially make the quick-charging Super Charge ion Battery for electric bikes, forklifts, construction machinery and other industrial use. It can work in temperatures as low as minus 22 degrees Fahrenheit.

Vermont’s electricity system can handle the plug-in hybrid automobile revolution — good news for drivers waiting for climate-friendly, cheaper-to-fuel cars, a research team said Tuesday. Now all that’s needed is the cars themselves. And if drivers are looking for a Ford, the wait could be a long one, a Ford Motor Co. executive told a University of Vermont conference on plug-in hybrids.
